Quarter Master MK IV
Remote controlled aviation offers an concise alternative to an industry which has proven to be very dangerous and expensive in the past. Our experience has led us to create a series of remote controlled, state of the art, aerial tripods where safety, efficiency and ease of operation are all factors which contribute to this novel approach. The versatility of our aircraft goes beyond that of a full scale aircraft, as the remote control has greater speed control and access to low altitude photography and video.
![]() ~ The Quarter Master~
Our premium in hard working aerial platforms, rugged and highly seasoned, the Quarter Master harmonizes a dual lifting concept, Auto-Gyro and S.T.O.L (Short take-off or landing) aircraft principles, the sum of this allows for a vehicle which can take off from the most remote location, climb out at very high angles of attack, proclaim its mission and return for a landing at your feet every time.
The Quarter Master in flight can best be described as responsive and steady. Our aircraft boasts a 10 foot wing span with Leading Edge Extensions and Fowler style flaps, this type of aircraft can be flown so slow that standard aileron control is not very effective, for this reason we utilize spoilers, which are located on the top outer portions of the wing. They are very effective in low end control, also the top end is a pleasure, as the spoilers tend to drop and retreat the wing in an easy to control proverse turn, all with little or no input from the rudder.
~Stability - Imagine spinning a bicycle wheel about its axis, this in flight is simply amazing, because the rotors are in counter-rotation they provide lateral and longitudinal stability, this is because the rotors do not desire to work any harder than they have to, or "to seek the path of least resistance". They automatically respond to demand loads, in flight this effect provides the Quarter Master with the "on rails" quality that we feel is the main ingredient necessary for a truly gyro-stabilized platform.
~Vertical landings- In Principle, the Quarter Master is flown much like any aircraft, in that there is a need for airflow to provide lift, much like a helicopter in a deep auto-rotational landing, we set up for a landing by holding up elevator or until a" nose high" or" high angle of attack" is established, throttle is then used primarily to control the glide path right on down to a point where the excess momentum is flared by pulling the remaining up elevator and adding throttle, this produces a remarkable near zero roll out landing every time.
~Payload performance- The rotors also share the lifting duties, the additional lifting area provides the Quarter Master with a healthy increase in payload as compared to a standard aircraft design. At higher air speeds the rotors are allowed to de-load somewhat as the wing becomes more effective and a high cruise can be attained .
![]() Our wing is a high utility design, in that, we have the best of both worlds, low end stability and a solid high end cruise. For the slow side of things we utilize leading edge Slats, which actually pump air over the spoilers and outer part of the wing at high angles of attack, allowing complete control even in the deepest of auto rotational landing. It is this low end performance that really brings out the best in the Quarter Master, this is because of the unique harmony between the wing at high angles of attack and the rotor system, as auto-gyros create lift because of the reaction of the air flow from below, this harmony allows the aircraft to virtually hang off the rotors in auto rotational landings, allowing operators confidence to enable them to land and take-off in some of the harshest of environments. ~
Quarter Master : The Platform
The Quarter Master is an attractive and seasoned performer, high time airframes and reliable equipment ensure that this platform will deliver, time and time again. Our Quarter Masters are hand built to exacting tolerances, each one comes serial numbered and is tracked in our " Part Smart" program. We deliver only complete and ready to fly aircraft, each one tuned and test flown before delivery. We also invite our clients to come and spend 7 days at our facility for some hands on experience and to "verse you in the art" so to speak. We hold a unique method of teaching our clients and we make sure you are comfortable in all areas, before you leave with your new investment .
